Each art contains a science and each science has its art.

And though our fates lie in ourselves

The stars inspire in many ways

To count and name

Or paint and frame

These both must play their part.

I’ve never seen a pigment that was laid without a plan,

Or read about a galaxy

Whose name did not appear to me

As drawn from some mythology

That showed the Artist’s hand.

In common as admirers, we give back to Nature, naturally,

And if at times one voice should swell, in time the others will as well.

Andrew Milne, New York, 2011

Part of the Big Lake wetlands at Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park north of Edmonton Alberta. I am grateful to the Big Lake Environmental Support Society for making the lakeshore more accessible. When we are alone with our thoughts at the end of the trail, we should remember that the trail did not come magically into being. It owes its existence to human hearts and human minds, guiding the work of human hands.
